You have a desire to learn more about basic quiltmaking skills.  Any of the following classes will help to build your skills.

  • Just starting out

    No experience necessary!  This is the beginner class for anyone interested in learning quilting-making. This class includes basic instructions in fabric care, rotary cutting, and quick piecing techniques for a four-patch block, plus border and binding application using a simple pattern. We’ll teach you accurate piecing skills for a successful future in quilt-making!

  • BEGINNING MACHINE QUILTING

    Quilt tops mounting up in your closet? Need to finish those tops to make room for more? Then beginning machine quilting is just the class for you. Learn to use your walking foot for stitching in the ditch, straight-line quilting and gentle curves. Thread, needles, batting, quilting patterns and marking will be discussed and practiced while in class. This is a great class with lots of discussion and question/answer time. A thorough working knowledge of your machine is necessary for this class.

  • BEGINNING MACHINE APPLIQUE

    Learn the art of machine appliqué with this beginner guide to using your sewing machine to create quick and easy appliquéd quilts. This course features a small 16” square wall hanging project that will give you a hands-on approach to learning straight lines and curves plus getting around those tricky inner and outer points. Fee includes pattern.

  • BEGINNING hAND APPLIQUE

    Many patterns are now including appliqué. Do you know how to appliqué or have you never enjoyed it? Come learn everything you need to know to become a hand appliqué artist. In this class, we’ll make the flower pattern shown. This simple flowing design will teach you bias stems, gentle curves and sharp points. You can do so many things with appliqué that you can’t with machine piecing! Learn the basics including transferring the pattern, marking tools and appliqué of points and curves. Pattern purchase required.

  • BEGINNING hAND pIECING

    Using a stamping set allows you to quickly and easily mark your fabric by stamping!  You then simply cut out the hexagon and diamond shapes, and sew them accurately by hand on the dotted line the stamp leaves behind.  Pam will show you hand piecing techniques that will make this quilt a great travel project. You will be amazed how fast hand piecing can really be!  You choose your pattern from Grandmother’s Flower Garden or a 6 Pointed Star.

  • BINDINGS THE EASY WAY

    Bindings are everyone’s least favorite part of quilting. With Colleen’s quick methods, no more hours of hand sewing that binding! Try this simple method that saves hours of time and creates a beautiful folded or piped edge next to the binding. Get that quilt finished in a fraction of the time.

    Are you overwhelmed by choices when you enter The Quilt Barn? Do you struggle with color combinations and dither endlessly when choosing fabrics? Colleen offers you some fun and easy strategies for choosing colors and palettes for you next quilt. You will be able to combine colors you hadn’t dreamed of...and be successful! This is a hands-on experience of color.
